A Broadcaster’s One Shining Moment

Two college student radio broadcasters from High Point University made a name for themselves during the start of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, which kicked off yesterday.

The duo, Jimmy Rosselli and Griffin Wright, both budding sports commentators for HPUR Student Radio, were on the call during their early First Round NCAA Tournament matchup against the Purdue Boilermakers.

Their journey into the spotlight began not only with their passion for sports broadcasting but also due to their charismatic on-air presence.

Fans and listeners quickly grew fond of their unique style and engaging commentary, which made it feel like they were sharing the game with friends rather than just providing a traditional play-by-play.

This was most evident during the Big South Conference Championship game against Winthrop a week prior, where their iconic call went viral across social media platforms.

Following that electrifying game, their reactions and commentary were shared widely, earning them a devoted fanbase that followed them into the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the unfortunate outcome of the matchup against Purdue, where High Point lost 75–63, Jimmy and Griffin’s enthusiasm and dedication to their craft resonated with listeners.

The way they narrated the game displayed not only their knowledge of basketball but also their love for the sport and their university.

Their chemistry on air and the infectious energy they brought to the broadcast captivated sports fans, making even a loss feel like a celebratory moment for High Point University.

Reflecting on their journey, the two broadcasters emphasized the lessons they learned throughout what makes the tournament so special

For them, it wasn’t just about winning or losing; it was about the exhilarating experience of being part of something larger than themselves.

These experiences created a bond between them and their listeners, further cementing their roles in representing their school.

As they continue their college careers, Jimmy and Griffin share dreams of one day moving to larger platforms, perhaps reaching national broadcasts.

Regardless of where their futures may lead, their stories and moments from this tournament will serve as cherished memories, reminding them of the thrilling adventure they embarked upon together, and the lasting impact they’ve made as student broadcasters.
